Alzheimer's-related Psychosis Clinical Trials

Alzheimer's Psychosis Research Studies

These research studies are being conducted to see whether investigational study medications can help reduce hallucinations and delusions that sometimes occur with Alzheimer's disease. Many people living with Alzheimer's experience distressing symptoms—like seeing or hearing things that aren't there, unusual suspicions about loved ones, or believing things that aren't true—that can be frightening for both the person and their family.

While current treatments can help manage some aspects of Alzheimer's, there are no FDA-approved medications specifically designed to treat these psychotic symptoms. Researchers want to see if new medications can help reduce these symptoms and improve quality of life in Beachwood and Cleveland OH. The studies will also assess whether these medications may help with related symptoms like agitation.

How the studies work: The study medication is taken by mouth at home. The study team will work closely with you and your care partner to find a dose that works well and adjust as needed based on how things are going.

These studies are seeking adults who:

  • Are 55 to 90 years of age

  • Have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease

  • Have been experiencing hallucinations or delusions for at least 2 months

  • Have lived at the same residence for at least 6 weeks

  • Are medically stable and able to attend clinic visits

About your care partner: We ask that you have a care partner—like a close friend, family member, or caregiver—who knows you well and can attend study visits with you. This person helps the study team understand how things are going, including any changes in mood or behavior, assists with taking study medication, and can provide valuable support throughout the study. Your care partner will need to sign a separate consent form to participate.

Study commitment: Depending on the study, participation involves approximately 13 to 22 weeks total, with visits to the study center ranging from weekly to every two weeks, plus phone check-ins in between.

There is no cost to you for the study treatment or any study-related visits or tests. Reimbursement for travel costs and meals may be available.
